A GROUP of pensioners from Northampton will stage a concert this week to benefit the Chronicle & Echo’s charity appeal.

The Valentine Singers – the resident choir at St Crispin Retirement Village in Duston – will perform for shoppers at the Weston Favell Shopping Centre on Saturday, to raise money for the Chron’s and Macmillan Cancer Support’s £1.55 million campaign to fund a new blood cancer treatment unit at Northampton General Hospital.

The choir, which sings for charities and the elderly throughout the town, will perform at the centre from 10.30am until noon.

Meanwhile, a coffee morning held by a Northampton physiotherapy practice will also benefit the appeal.

The Physical Therapy Centre, in Abington Avenue, will hold the event – which will also see practice principal Stephanie Rodley get her long hair cut short for charity – for patients, staff and GPs on Wednesday, March 28, from 10am until noon.

Ms Rodley said: “Ordinarily we hold a Christmas party for our patients, GPs and consultants but we thought this year we would save our money and do a coffee morning with donations to go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

“We have all been affected by cancer in one way or another. My little sister fortunately got the all-clear yesterday from thyroid cancer, and we have a link with Northampton General Hospital, as one of the cancer specialists sends her mastectomy patients to me for rehabilitation.”

Town residents are also reminded they can get information, advice and support concerning cancer when a mobile information service visits Northampton town centre morrow.

The Macmillan Cancer Support bus will be outside Primark in Abington Street from 10am until 4pm.

Anyone with questions or concerns can benefit from confidential advice or pick up information leaflets, free of charge.

No appointment is necessary.
