NORTHAMPTON is being urged to get behind the Cobblers as they battle to avoid relegation... and help raise cash for the Chronicle & Echo’s charity appeal in the process.
Football fans are being encouraged to attend the League Two club’s crunch matches against Macclesfield Town and Port Vale this month as the team bids to keep its place in league football.
Tickets for the vital matches have been discounted by the club to encourage as many fans as possible to go to Sixfields to cheer on the team as they do their best to secure a vital six points.
In attending the games, fans will also be doing their bit to say ‘Cobblers2Cancer’, as 40 per cent of the discounted price of each ticket will go to the Chron’s and Macmillan Cancer Support’s joint campaign to raise £1.55 million for a new blood cancer treatment unit at Northampton General Hospital.
David Cardoza, club chairman, said: “Macmillan are a wonderful charity. We have worked with them closely as one of our eight official charity partners and previously in the Chron’s Kitchen event.
“Just about everyone’s family has, at one time or another, benefited from the terrific work they and their nurses do.
“This is a fabulous opportunity for the Northampton public to continue to get behind their fund-raising for the new haematology unit at Northampton General Hospital and also cheer the Cobblers on to some vital wins.
“I hope as many people as possible will get behind the scheme. They will enjoy an affordable day out for all the family, they will help us preserve league football in Northamptonshire, and they will be making a real difference to people’s lives through Macmillan Cancer Support.
“We are proud to represent Northampton and to be teaming up with the Chron and Macmillan for this terrific scheme.”
The Cobblers are currently bottom of League Two, and victory in both games would go a long way to helping them to avoid relegation.
David Summers, Chron editor, said: “We are delighted to launch this campaign with the Cobblers. It should be a win-win for everyone; the community unites behind Northampton Town and at the same time they back the appeal with Macmillan Cancer Support.
“The Cobblers play a vital role in the success of this town and we are determined to get as many people as possible to Sixfields to create a fantastic atmosphere... and help a great cause.”
