Spin trio’s marathon
A 12 hour charity spinning challenge at Dallington Raquets and Fitness Club, with Saints players Mark Sorenson and Brian Mujati making an appearance to support the challenge. THREE fund-raisers completed a 12-hour spin-a-thon to support a new armed services charity.
Emily Campbell set the gruelling feat on Monday with gym buddy and motorcycle racer, Maria Costello MBE, at Dallington Racquets and Fitness Club, where the two are members.
They were joined by Neil Benson, from the Army’s Royal Signals, for the full stretch between 7.30am and 8pm – allowing for toilet breaks – along with around 30 other spinners who joined in for some of the 12 classes.
The event raised more than £1,000 for Coming Home, part of the Haig Housing Trust, which provides specially-adapted homes for severely injured and disabled Service people.
Saints rugby players Mark Sorenson and Brian Mujati also visited the group to cheer them on.
Speaking from her spinning bike, Emily said: “Me and Maria both have links to the armed services through family and friends so it was an easy choice for me to support the charity. I wanted to do something epic, not just a marathon, and this certainly feels epic. The support of everyone joining us has been a massive help and it’s been great to get some motivation from Mark and Brian.”
Maria, a world record holder, said: “We are all aware of what the armed forces do for our country because we have family who serve, but we want to make other people aware.”
