‘Kind-hearted’ donate £20,000 at glam ball
EMPLOYEES at a Northamptonshire book publisher raised more than £20,000 for charity in one night.
Igloo Books in Sywell hosted a ball at Northampton Saints Rugby Club in Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton, on Saturday to raise funds for the Prince’s Trust.
The 7 in 7 Charity Ball, which raised £20,310, was part of a series of fundraising events the company will hold over the next year, with the highlight being four employees running seven marathons in seven days in seven countries next April.
Dean Cornish, international sales manager at Igloo books, said: “The atmosphere at the event was superb and the time just seemed to fly by. I’ve never seen a dance floor so packed with revellers and it’s great to know so much money was raised whilst having so much fun.”
More than 270 people attended the event, which was compered by ex-England and Manchester United footballer Dion Dublin, who is an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust.
He said: “It was a superb night, and £20k will go a long way to helping the Prince’s Trust in the Northamptonshire area. There were some incredibly kind-hearted and generous people in that room.”
Entertainment included a tombola, an F1 simulator and an auction. The evening was organised by Igloo’s managing director, John Styring and sales director Briony Britten.
Jamie Roberts, from the Prince’s Trust, said he was grateful for the company’s effort, and added that it was a “great night”.
Igloo’s head of US sales Jonny Illingworth, head of UK sales, Mark Burge, Dean Cornish and John Styring will take part in the 7 in 7 challenge, running official marathon routes in Luxembourg, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne and Cardiff before finishing with the official London marathon on April 22, 2012.
The company, which received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in May, hopes to raise £100,000 in total.
