AN INTIMATE charity concert to raise money for Royal & Derngate’s community work will feature singing star Faryl Smith.

Staff at the Northampton town centre theatre came up with the idea of the informal, musical evening which will also feature its own community choir.

It is hoped the evening will raise money towards Royal & Derngate’s ongoing work with youth, asylum seekers, young offenders, schools and other members of the community, through theatre workshops, story telling, music and art work.

Amanda Howson, publicity manager for the theatre, said: “The staff our encouraged to come up with ideas for the ‘Future Fund’ and many of them wanted to get the community choir involved, which sprung from our work in the community.

“We’re hoping for a lot of support from family and friends of the members and also members of the public at this informal and intimate concert.”

The one-off evening will also feature music from local singer-songwriter Corinne Lucy, Northampton duo Velvet Engine.

Britain’s Got Talent finalist Faryl Smith, aged 16, from Kettering, who rose to fame during the series in 2008, will support the evening with her classical voice.

An Evening with Royal & Derngate Community Choir and Friends starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday, February 22 in the Royal auditorium. Tickets are £7 each or two for £10, and can be booked by calling the Box Office on Northampton 624811.

All proceeds will go to Royal & Derngate’s Future Fund to support the ongoing work of the theatre.
