Entries open for Miss Northampton 2012 competition

YOUNG women in the Northamptonshire area have been encouraged to enter the Miss Northampton 2012 contest.
Entries are now being invited for the annual beauty pageant which is open to women living in the county aged between 17 and 24 years old.
The winner will represent Northampton in the Miss England semi-final and, if successful, will then be given the opportunity to win the national title.
Event organiser Wing Li said: “It has been many years since Northampton or even Northamptonshire has been represented in the Miss England national final which takes place in April and we would like this year to find the girl who can buck the trend. We are looking for a winner who will stand out from the crowd, has a great personality and has confidence as well as beauty”.
The winner of Miss Northampton 2011 was former Guilsborough School pupil Gabi Willmore, aged 22.
Miss Willmore said she had enjoyed a “whirlwind” year including many appearances at charity and business events.
She said: “The year has gone so quickly as I’ve been doing quite a bit of charity work and I’ve really enjoyed implementing my mentoring scheme.
“I would recommend the competition to anyone as it has been a great experience for me. I’d never done anything like it before and I just wanted to try something new. It has been really good for getting me known in Northampton and has given me a new career.”
The deadline for entries for Miss Northampton 2012 is Wednesday, February 1. The 12 finalists will be decided by an online vote and they will then compete against each other at a venue in Northampton which is yet to be confirmed.
Both the Miss Northampton and the Miss England event will be supporting the Miss World foundation Beauty with a Purpose which all Miss England contestants will be encouraged to fund-raise for as part of the competition. The top fund-raiser in Miss Northampton as well as the competition winner will also win a place in the Miss England semi final.
