Calendars aim to raise charity cash
A GROUP of young women from farming backgrounds have bared almost all to raise thousands of pounds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
A calendar featuring pictures of 11 women from Northamptonshire and Peterborough has been produced to fund research into the muscle-wasting disease.
The idea to create a calendar was the brainchild of Alex Paske, aged 20, of Thurning, near Thrapston, who has a close friend who has muscular dystrophy.
She said: “We wanted to do something a bit different and decided to do a calendar. Some of the girls were a bit worried about taking their clothes off but others were quite happy.”
The calendar, which is on sale for £7, has already raised £3,000 and Ms Paske said the fund-raising target was now £5,000.
She said: “It has been so much more popular than we thought it was going to be.”
Charlotte Allen, a fund-raising manager for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, said: “This is one of the bravest fund-raising efforts I’ve ever seen.
“The girls have done a fantastic job of putting this calendar together and they should be proud of raising so much to fund research into devastating muscle-wasting conditions.”
The calendars can be ordered by emailing downonthefarmcalendar@hotmail.co.uk and paying through www.justgiv ing.com/paskey.
Meanwhile Northampton-born Olympic hopeful Hollie Avil has posed for a charity calendar in aid of Wellbeing of Women. The 21-year-old triathlete joined fellow female members of team GB to model underwear from lingerie firm Nichole de Carle London for the calendar, which will go on sale in the New Year.
The calendar will be sold on the lingerie brand’s website www.nicholedecarle.com for £9.99, and can be pre-ordered ahead of its official launch in the first week of January.
A spokesperson for Wellbeing of Women said: “Wellbeing of Women is the charity dedicated to improving the health of women and babies to make a difference to everybody’s lives today and tomorrow. We fund pioneering medical research and training into women’s health and use education and information to empower women so we can all be at the top of our game.”
