A charity has received a £2,000 donation from a Northampton hotel after staff there won a nationwide fitness contest.
KidsAid, the Northamptonshire-based charity which helps children and young people who have been bereaved, abused or traumatised, received a helping hand from the Hilton Northampton.

Staff there took part in a summer fund-raising effort involving m
ore than 70 hotels in the chain, who were asked to cover as many sponsored miles in a day as they could. It was all part of the Hilton's Around the World Day on June 29, which was organised as part of the Hilton in the Community Foundation national charity drive, and the Northampton event was launched by Northampton South MP, Brian Binley.

Participants were set the task of competing in either a cardio-vascular team challenge or a family-orientated walk.

The overall aim was for the hotels nationwide to collectively cover enough distance to travel the circumference of the earth – 24,901.55 miles – with staff at the Collingtree-based hotel notching up a staggering 2,576 miles, the equivalent of 100 marathons or crossing the US from San Francisco to Miami.

Chairman of the charity, David Mackintosh, said: "It was a fantastic effort back in June and KidsAid is proud to have set the record for the most miles covered in any Hilton hotel.

"The money will be very useful to help children across Northamptonshire."
